Melissa Vergara Fernández is a PhD student at the Erasmus Institute for Philosophy and Economics (EIPE) at Erasmus University Rotterdam. She does research in philosophy of science and economics, and specifically on the epistemic contributions of economic models.
Melissa has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia (2007). She attended three years of undergraduate studies in the Arts, with an emphasis on electronic media at the same university.
After having obtained her BSc, she worked as a communications coordinator at the Alberto Lleras Camargo School of Government – also at Los Andes. There she was a teaching assistant for several courses on game theory, ethics, and political economy.
In 2011 she obtained a MA degree in Philosophy and Economics (cum laude) at EUR with her thesis entitled A defence of the economics profession after the crisis: a discussion on the use of models in economics.
