'The Accounting and Auditing programme offers high-quality education, in which you will be surrounded by highly motivated and ambitious students'

Why did I choose Accounting and Auditing?

Currently I am pursuing my Masters’ degree in Accounting, Auditing and Control with the specialisation in Accounting and Auditing. From the three specialisations in Accounting, I have chosen for the Accounting and Auditing track, as it is the most suitable one for students who would like to follow the path to become a ‘Chartered Accountant’.

The Big Four

An advantage of this programme is that it is well-structured and each block has different approaches. It starts off with some fundamental courses and during this block, Erasmus School of Economics provides students with the opportunity to participate in skills classes offered by the Big Four audit firms. It is a great way to get to know other students and your possible future employer. This is followed by a seminar, which is challenging and more interactive, and to stimulate teamwork, there are also group assignments incorporated in the curriculum.

Extracurricular activities

What definitely gives an extra touch to the regular programme is the PwC Honours Master. In this programme, a small diverse group of motivated students are selected to participate in the extracurricular activities organised by PwC. These activities are not only informative, but also fun as we have all become good friends. This programme is highly recommended for enthusiastic and ambitious students.

'The specialisation in accounting and auditing is your stepping stone to a great career'

People from many different backgrounds

When I graduated from my bachelor in economics I knew that I wanted to do my master in accounting and auditing. There are many things that I enjoyed about this course. I met a lot of people from many different backgrounds and, different stories to tell. Some of which have become my closest friends and are currently employed at the same company as I am.

It helped me get to where I currently am

During the year I have been challenged and supported by my professors. The majority of professors that teach in this master course worked for an accounting company, or are currently working for them. Not only did they help me with my study, but they provided me with a lot of insights into my future career prospects. Some of the professors take it a step further, and invite companies to provide guest lectures and trainings. Multiple trainings were organised and each of the Big Four companies joined. I met my current employer through these trainings. All in all I really enjoyed studying accounting at Erasmus School of Economics. It helped me get to where I currently am, and I will take it from here.

'The curriculum naturally combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, which challenges you to go the extra mile'

Why did I choose Accounting and Auditing?

By the end of my bachelor I had to consider which master I wanted to do. Holding a bachelors’ degree in Economics and Business Economics left me with numerous opportunities. However, during my bachelor I found the Financial Accounting course very intriguing and the job opportunities as an auditor very interesting. Getting to dig deep into the financial and non-financial information of a firm, as well as a very diverse and challenging work environment is what I find most interesting about this job. Being both interested in a career as an auditor and the fact that this degree provides a strong position in the labour market made me decide to subscribe for the Msc Accounting, Auditing and Control.

Truly interesting lectures

The programme offers a broad variety of courses, which cover theoretical and academic skills as well as practical assignments and group assignments. My favourite course was Auditing Theory that mainly covers the basics of auditing and why and how audits take place and the different forms of audits. This course truly gives insight to the particular field of work related to this master. Most lecturers in this specialisation work for a company and they all have a lot of practical experience and academic and theoretical knowledge, which ensures truly interesting lectures. Furthermore, the Accounting and Auditing track offers the opportunity to apply for the PwC Honours Master programme. This extracurricular programme adds practical insights through additional workshops, company visits and a business game to the regular master programme.

'The specialisation Accounting and Auditing consists of academic, theoretical, practical and social courses. This comprehensive programme provides you many opportunities for your future career'

Why did I choose Accounting and Auditing?

It was not difficult for me to choose for the master specialisation Accounting and Auditing. After I graduated from secondary school, I started studying Economics and Business Economics at the Erasmus School of Economics. During this Bachelor programme I followed accounting courses which have made me enthusiastic about the accounting profession. Not only the accounting subjects but also the people I  encountered were reasons for me to stay at the Erasmus University.

I have made friends for life

During this challenging master programme, you learn academic, theoretical, practical and social skills. After this programme you are able to analyse and write an academic article, analyse financial statements and explain the audit profession. Next to lectures, also seminars are part of the programme where you work in small groups of students which generates convenient interaction. During this programme I made friends for life.

Many opportunities for your future career

The master specialisation Accounting and Auditing offers courses which are relevant if you would like to become a Certified Public Accountant (Dutch: Registeraccountant) in the future. From my own experience I would like to emphasize that this master specialisation and the related events provide you many opportunities for your future career.
