You can find a checklist, which will gain insight in which procedures you’ll have to complete and which documents you may need to bring. EUR will help you applying for a visa if staying in the Netherlands over three months.
Do not underestimate how difficult it currently is to find accommodation in the Netherlands, and start your orientation (long) before arriving! The Dutch housing market (both buying and renting!) is tight, and It might prove quite a challenge to find suitable accommodation that fits your budget.
Arranging accommodation beforehand is very important, as
- registering in person at your local municipality (the BRP) is a mandatory procedure for all who intend to stay in the Netherlands for 4 months or more, irrespective of nationality or purpose of stay;
- you will only be assigned a Citizen Service Number (a ‘BSN’) through this registration. And a BSN is essential for interaction with Dutch authorities; opening a bank account; (paid) employment etcetera.

A useful app to download is 'Welcome2NLResearch' from the App Store and Google Play. The app generates a tailor-made list of the various arrangements to be made before or after your arrival in the Netherlands. It also generates a checklist of the various documents needed for the necessary formalities.
