'De toekomst van vrouwen': een mini-documentaireserie van EUR
Van het uitbreken van COVID, het op slot gaan van de samenleving tot protesten tegen systemisch racisme, de gebeurtenissen van het afgelopen jaar hebben de samenleving steeds meer gedwongen om beter naar zichzelf te kijken en de enorme kosten van onze maatschappelijke ongelijkheden te erkennen.
Terwijl we het licht aan het eind van de tunnel zien door massale vaccinatie, biedt de markering van deze IWD ons een kans om vooruit te kijken naar hoe we onze reeds bestaande maatschappelijke uitdagingen van genderongelijkheid en onze behoefte aan inclusief leiderschap kunnen blijven aanpakken
In deze mini-documentaireserie, 'De toekomst van vrouwen', vraagt EUR een aantal van onze ‘thought leaders’ uit onze gemeenschap naar hun visie en de belangrijkste kwesties die zij identificeren waarmee vrouwen in de wereld na COVID te maken zullen krijgen. In vijf video's verkennen we onderwerpen die variëren van sociaaleconomische ongelijkheid tot onze toekomstige leiders die binnen onze instelling studeren.

Whilst gender inequity in the workplace remains a continuing challenge, its extent and prevalence are not independent of other societal challenges. For example, COVID, despite its universal effects on society, has had notably gendered outcomes also. In this mini-documentary, we investigate how women have been affected differently from men during the era of COVID-19 and what it means for the future.
We discuss these themes with Dr. Jess Bier, assistant professor of urban sociology at EUR's School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB). She tells us more about the factors of structural inequity in the workplace and the pandemic's gendered consequences alongside it.

For our IWD-video series, we met with ISS-alumna Jamila Sulu to talk about women's rights, specifically focusing on widows and orphans. Jamila, a widow herself, talks about the experiences of widowed women in Tanzania and the Widows and Orphans Development Foundation (WODF) she founded.
