Abby Waysdorf is a PhD candidate at the Erasmus Research Centre for Media, Communication and Culture (ERMeCC) of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
She is currently performing research within the research project, Locating Imagination: An Interdisciplinary Perspective on Literary, Film and Music Tourism, which is funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
The central aim of this project is to discover why and under what circumstances popular media products give rise to new tourism flows, and which variations can be found based on the specific characteristics of the medium involved.
Abby was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Denver, Colorado. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Comparative History of Ideas from the University of Washington, in Seattle, and a Master’s Degree (cum laude) in Media and Performance Studies from Utrecht University. Aside from Locating Imagination, her research interests include online culture, fan studies, sports and media, and the digitization of television.
