Profile

My research focuses on issues of femininity and masculinity in contemporary consumerist societies. I am particularly interested in media representations and people’s experience of the medical and beauty markets, including cosmetic surgery. Adopting an interdisciplinary multimodal discourse analytic approach, I am currently working on a project examining the representation of cosmetic surgery and ‘other’ beauty services in advertisements in women’s and men’s lifestyle magazines.
