Profile
Antoinette de Bont is a professor at Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management. Her research agenda addresses national and international policy priorities, like the modernization of primary care, the diversification of the health care work force or the use of big data to increase efficiency in health care. The research question that defines her agenda is: how do interdependencies between people and technology explain innovation in health care.
"I contribute to research for policy with multi-sited ethnography. I observe both policy makers who set the prescribed rules and caregivers who translate the rules in practice. My studies show how rules come into practice and explain differences in compliance to the rules."
Since 2015 she is the director of the European Master in Health Economics and Management (Eu-HEM.eu). Eu-HEM is an international joint degree programme. The partners are: the University of Bologna, the Management centre Innsbruck and the University of Oslo.
She holds a master of health sciences from the University of Maastricht. Her doctoral thesis conceptualized the role of databases in health policy. In 2010-11 she was a Harkness fellow at Kaiser Permanente in the United States.
