Dr. Bert George (1987) is an Assistant Professor of Public Management at the Department of Public Administration and Sociology (Erasmus University Rotterdam). Bert teaches public management courses to full-time, international, executive and research students in (international) public management and public administration. He is the Program Director of the Master of Public Management at Erasmus University Rotterdam. His research focuses on strategy, behavior and performance in public and nonprofit organizations, with a specific interest in how strategizing can help public and nonprofit organizations perform better.
Bert was a visiting scholar at the City University of Hong Kong, where he worked within CityU's renowned Laboratory for Public Management and Policy (LaMP) - with which he is still associated. He holds a PhD in Business Economics, a Master of Science in Strategic Management and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - all from Ghent University (Belgium).
Bert has consulted for several (international) public and nonprofit organizations - including the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He currently co-chairs the European Group for Public Administration (EGPA) Permanent Study Group on Strategic Management in Government and is a senior member of the Netherlands Institute of Government.
Bert's research has been published in several elite journals in the field of public administration - including Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Public Administration and Public Management Review. He has been awarded three best paper awards for his work by renowned international academic organizations (International Research Society for Public Management in 2018, European Academy of Management in 2016 and European Group for Public Administration in 2013) and was selected as a top reviewer by the Academy of Management in 2017.
