Essential to her research is her focus on proactive behavior, following the idea that working individuals have become increasingly responsible for their own work experiences and outcomes. Within this framework, Emma examines to what extent people can proactively promote their own levels of well-being and creativity. In her research on ‘proactive vitality management’ she has conducted multiple, consecutive studies in which Dutch, German and American employees from various industries and occupations have participated.
