Biography
**Henri Krop (1954) is associate professor in the History of Philosophy at Erasmus School of Philosophy. **
Dr. Krop studied Philosophy and Theology at Leiden University and the University of Amsterdam; he obtained his PhD at Leiden University in 1987 with a thesis on Duns Scotus. He has published extensively on the history of philosophy, concentrating on the history of Dutch academic philosophy.
He served as chief editor of the journal Geschiedenis van de wijsbegeerte in Nederland (1989-2003) and as co-editor of De draagbare Spinoza (Bert Bakker, 2008 3rd ed.), Franco Burgersdijk (1590-1636) (Rodopi, 1993), Deventer denkers (Verloren, 1993), Zeer kundige professoren (Verloren, 1997), and The Dictionary of Seventeenth and Eighteenth-Century Dutch Philosophers, two volumes. (Thoemmes, 2003).
In 2004, he contributed a major article on eighteenth-century Dutch philosophy to Ueberwegs Grundriss der Geschichte der Philosophie. Die Philosophie im 18. Jahrhundert (Schwabe & Co, 2004). In 2006 his acclaimed Dutch-Latin translation and edition of Spinoza’s Ethica (Prometheus, 2002) enjoyed its third edition.
His most recent monograph Spinoza. Een paradoxale icoon van Nederland (Prometheus, 2014) was lauded in a review as "The definitive study of the reception of Spinoza in the Netherlands."
