Nicoleta Bălău is a Lecturer in the Department of Media & Communication of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication. She obtained her PhD from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Communication Science. Her dissertation is about strategic information sharing and her research contributed to an increased understanding of what strategic information sharing is and identified technological solutions to stimulate the sharing of private and important information. Essentially, in collaboration with the Norwegian company Scan4News, she investigated how individual motivations (such as social motivation and perceptions of power) and technological features (such as information display and social buttons), separately and in interaction, affect strategic information sharing, in online knowledge sharing communities. Nicoleta holds a MSc degree in Social and Organisational Psychology (University of Groningen) and in Social Management and Community Development (Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, Best Graduate) with a Bachelor degree in Sociology (Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, Best graduate).
