Profile

**Qian Huang (1991) is a PhD candidate at the Department of Media & Communication.** Under supervision of Dr. Daniel Trottier and Prof. Susanne Janssen, she studies digital vigilantism in the Chinese context. Qian’s PhD research is a part of the research project funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) entitled *Digital Vigilantism: Mapping the terrain and assessing societal impacts.* Qian received a Bachelor’s degree in English and International Studies from China Foreign Affairs University, followed by a Master’s degree in Global Communication from Chinese University of Hong Kong. In her master thesis, she studied *diaosi* as a way of speaking among Chinese citizens. Her research interests include Chinese social media, online public opinions, media and surveillance, pop culture and surveillance, and comparative studies. Before coming to Erasmus University Rotterdam, Qian worked as a member of the English curriculum reform project in the Affiliated High School of Peking University. Her work involved selecting and editing reading and practice materials, designing and implementing lesson plans. The aim of this reform was to incorporate authentic literature and social science knowledge in English teaching in high school. In this project, Qian established courses independently, including Selection of Influential Speeches, Pop Culture and Society, and Introduction to Intercultural Communication.
