Profile
Shangwei Wu is a PhD candidate in the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication.
With Prof. Susanne Janssen and Dr. Daniel Trottier respectively being his promotor and co-promotor, Shangwei studies Chinese gay men's dating app use. Specifically, he is interested in the mutual shaping between dating app use and Chinese gay men's social relationships.
Before coming to Erasmus University Rotterdam, he studied in Renmin University of China from 2009 to 2016. He obtained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the School of Journalism and Communication. In 2014, he also studied international affairs at Sciences Po in Paris. He worked as an intern at CCTV (China Central Television) in 2012 and the Wall Street Journal in 2015.
Shangwei’s research interests include media technologies, television audience, and cyber nationalism. He is particularly interested in how social media mediate monority groups' lives.
