Dr. Stefan Mazurek was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in rural Nebraska. During his academic career, he remained in the Midwest region of the United States of America. In 2009, he completed his bachelors (BSc) in Biology at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He then decided to move back to Chicago where he enrolled in a PhD program in the department of physiology at Loyola University. After successfully defending his dissertation in 2014, he continued his research career as a postdoctoral fellow in the department of medicine at the University of Chicago. At both Chicago institutions, his research focused on elucidating molecular mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias that arise from cardiomyopathy and heart failure.
Why do you work at EUC?
After moving to the Netherlands, I was particularly intent on looking outside the world of medical research and finding a job as an educator. I was fortunate to be selected to work as a tutor at EUC starting in August of 2017. Since then, I have had the privilege of working with the highly skilled and dedicated faculty members at EUC. Guiding students and seeing them achieve their academic goals first-hand is one of my most rewarding career experiences thus far.
