Fluctuations in the economy and the health of industrialized countries

Economic cycles can have a profound impact on the health of populations. The researchers are examining the mechanisms that link economic fluctuations over the last 50 years to the health of individuals in 17 European countries and the United States. We are using data from retrospective reports by the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), linking it to comparable data from ELSA and HRS in the United States, and to indicators of the economic cycle over the last 50 years.
