Migraine in women: a real headache

It is well known that fluctuations in female sex hormones may provoke migraine, but the underlying mechanisms have not yet been explained. I will study these mechanisms, taking into account functional, genetic and epigenetic factors. The focus will be on neurovascular parameters because of the substantial evidence that blood vessels and their innervating nerves play a prominent role in migraine. Animal and patient studies will be connected in a unique way, by using the same methodology for both groups.
