The intensity of the courses has helped me to develop a good sense of patience and persistence.
Why did you choose the master Media & Business? Was it a conscious choice for a specific career path? What other factors contributed to your decision?
My choice was based on the fact that I have studied Media & Communications as a bachelor but I still wanted to extend my knowledge in a more quantitative direction, which the Media & Business program was offering. The courses, as well as the feedback from recent graduates that I got, told me that this program was the right choice for my aim to be introduced to entrepreneurship and the world of digital media. The location and the university itself were also among the factors behind my decision.
Has the Media & Business programme lived up to your expectations?
Most definitely – my initial wish to have a more practical than theoretical education was fulfilled within the program. I would describe the master program as up-to-date. Why? Mainly because the cases that were taught were topical and also because of the digital tools that we were able to use. Of course, after some time has passed, I can also say that the intensity of the courses, has helped me to develop a good sense of patience and persistence – a quality needed for the future work-life.
How long did it take you to find a job after graduation and through which means did you find it?
While writing my master thesis, I had to decide between staying in the Netherlands or search for a job elsewhere. That decision came fast, because I was introduced to a software company based in Vienna, where I applied and got accepted while still writing the thesis.
For which organization or company do you currently work, and what is your position?
The software company is called Adverity and its main purpose is the integration of popular marketing applications, databases and Big Data platforms. The product is business-to-business and is focusing on media agencies, which is a field that I was initially attracted to.
Which components of your master are useful in your current position or career trajectory?
Mostly and mainly the Digital Research Methods and the Statistics – as mentioned, the digital media world is extremely connected to understanding offline and online marketing data, which would potentially enable people to take the correct decisions and actions.
Do you have any tips or advice for current students?
My one and only advice would be not to question your current decisions. They have been made based on your perceptions in the past. After taking them, make sure to take the best out of the situation that you are in.
