The University Library of the EUR* is a typical social science library. What once started as a collection of materials about the economic sector, eventually expanded into a collection about all social processes in a society:
- How do we earn a living: Economy
- How do we deal with one another: Social sciences
- What kind of mutual agreements do we have? Law (from international to domestic)
- How do we improve these processes? Public and Business Administration
The coherence of these aspects is reinforced by emphasizing theoretical deepening (philosophy), research techniques, teaching methods and past practices (history).
*The collection profile of the EUR’s Medical Library is currently not dealt with here.
The University Library has collections on the following topics:
- Business Administration
- Health Policy and Management
- European integration
- Art and culture
- Social sciences
The University Library of the Erasmus University Rotterdam has a collection of some 1.100.00 volumes, 345.000 e-books, more than 70.000 (online) journal subscriptions and licenses for more than 340 online databases (digital sources).
The starting point of the EUR’s purchasing policy is the scientific relevance of the materials for its own institution, specifically: the research activities and educational programmes within the faculties. In addition, national alignment between universities and other libraries also plays a role.
