19th Century House of Commons Parliamentary Papers

Comprehensive collection of documents concerning the 19th century sessions of the British House of Commons. The 19th century collection is part of the House of Commons Parliamentary Papers database, which also contains the 20th century collection.

 

Materials included in it are: the official report of the debates held in parliament (Hansard), (drafts of) bills and acts, reports of commissioners and committees, diplomatic and consular reports and correspondence, statistical abstracts (judicial, taxation, etc), accounts, census data, slavery and slave trade documents, and treaties. You can filter by series, type (i.e. document type), chamber (House), century/collection, document features, and subject.

USA Historical Government Documents

Contains three collections:

 

- American State Papers, 1789-1838

Legislative and executive documents, many originating from the period between 1789 and the beginning of the U.S. Congressional Serial Set in 1817.

 

- Senate Executive Journals, 1789-1980

Journals of the executive proceedings of the United States Senate 1789 to 1980.

 

- U.S. Congressional Serial Set, 1817-1994

Reports, documents and journals of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

 

Apart from these three collections, the page also gives access to NewsBank Current Events and Special Reports on U.S. contemporary politics.

U.S. Declassified Documents Online (via the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies)

Provides online access to more than 600,000 pages of previously classified government documents. Materials include State Department political analyses, White House confidential file materials, National Security Council policy statements, CIA intelligence memoranda, and much more. The collection is constantly being updated as new material is released by government agencies, the National Archives, and Presidential Libraries.

 

Please note that access is only possible on-site at the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies (formerly known as Roosevelt Study Center) in Middelburg. Students are requested to make an appointment before visiting the RIAS to consult this collection by sending an email to rias@zeeland.nl.

Library of Congress Web Archive

Websites archived by the Library of Congress. The archive encompasses a broad range of websites, but has a focus on US politics and government (federal, state, district and local government; candidates for political office (president, congress, governor); political commentary, and political parties). An overview of all collections in the archive containing links to the collections can be found on this page. Please note that the biggest collection is the vaguely titled 'Humanities and Social Sciences Division', which contains a broad range of websites, including government and election websites.

UK Government Web Archive

Archived versions of UK government websites and Twitter and YouTube accounts.

Dutch Treaty Database (part of overheid.nl)

The Treaty Database contains information on the treaties to which the Kingdom of the Netherlands is a party. The information includes the date on and the place at which the treaty was concluded, the date of its entry into force, where to find the text of the treaty, the parties (countries, territories and international organizations) and the date of each party’s ratification, any reservations, declarations or objections that may have been made, and relations between the different treaties.

Human Rights Documents Online (HRDO)
Repository for the documentation produced by non-governmental human rights organizations (NGOs) throughout the world. It contains a wide variety of reports on human rights issues, which would otherwise be very difficult to locate, obtain and consult. Many of the publications originate directly from countries where human rights are challenged.
