Be part of our art
The application of the 1000 tiles of our wall of art close to the new entrance on Institutenlaan has started today. The first tile has been applied by Marijn van der Kreij (the artist) himself.
During the last month a lot has happened. After the painting of the tiles by students and staff, Marijn has taken over the Erasmus Gallery to compose a beautiful selection of tiles for this piece of art. After selecting the tiles, they have been baked and now show their colours beautifully.
Create a tile for the renewed University Library in the artist’s studio!
New art works will be created for the renewed University Library. A large work of art measuring 3 x 15 metres and comprised of approximately 1000 hand-painted tiles will be installed close to the new entrance on Institutenlaan, on the conversion floor. Artist Marijn van Kreij will launch the project ‘The Studio’ on the Woudestein Campus to realise this work. Students and employees are warmly invited to his temporary studio to contribute to the creation of this work of art. Drop in to Marijn’s studio in the Erasmus Gallery between 11:00 and 17:00 on weekdays from 6 through 17 February and take part!
“To realise this work of art I would like to invite you to be part of the creation process. From Monday 6 February through Friday 17 February I’ll be working every day in the Erasmus Gallery. I’d like your help in painting the clay tiles with the same image. The personal gesture of the hand and variations within the repetitive theme are an important part of this work. Following a short introduction to the glazing technique, each participant can paint two tiles. The entire process takes about 15 to 30 minutes. It’s a unique opportunity to help create a work of art that will be exhibited permanently in the new University Library.” – Marijn van Kreij
