On Friday, May 24, we celebrate the 165th anniversary of the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet. The library was opened to the public on May 24, 1859 and has promoted the love of reading for 165 years. Today, as the humanities library on the campus Woudestein, the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet organizes a cultural and literary program for members and the EUR community, including lectures, interviews and book clubs for students.

The anniversary festivities will take place on Friday afternoon, May 24 from 3 p.m. in the Erasmus Pavilion theater. The program, which will focus on the love of reading, will be moderated by Abdelkader Benali. Performances are provided by Rotterdam’s City Poet Elfie Tromp and by our current National Poet and queen of the spoken word genre Babs Gons. Berrie Vugts will interview writer and poet Kees 't Hart about his much-discussed Pleidooi voor pulp. We’ll present the annual present to our members, which was created this year by illustrator Marloes de Vries.

You are invited to join the festivities: register yourself via the link at the top of the page.

The Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet collection can be found in the University Library. Students and employees of the EUR may borrow free of charge. Would you like to support the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet? You are welcome to: please check out our support memberships.
