dr. RER (Ruth) Van der Hallen

Biography

Ever wondered why some individuals are more profoundly affected by trauma than others? Or why certain types of trauma seem to impact us differently? Or why sharing struggles openly benefits some but not others, while keeping secrets seems to work best for some? These questions are at the heart of my work as a dedicated researcher and clinical psychologist.

As an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. I seek to understand why some individuals thrive despite significant adversities while others struggle. I am particularly intrigued by how individuals cope with "hidden" trauma or loss – the experiences often left unspoken – and how these experiences shape our psychological well-being. In addition to my research endeavors, I coordinate and teach the "Personality Disorders" course within our Clinical Psychology master's program, and I provide guidance and supervision to students during their research and practical internships. As a Clinical Psychologist/Psychotherapist, I specialize in conducting one-on-one sessions using psychodynamic psychotherapeutic techniques.

I am enthusiastic about opportunities for collaboration and remain open to invitations from the media. Feel free to reach out for potential partnerships, discussions, or lecture invites.
