Erasmus Centre for Urban, Ports and Transport Economics (Erasmus UPT) and Erasmus Center of Maritime Economics and Logistics (MEL) yearly composed a customized one-and-a-half week course program Smart Ports and Maritime Business for Maersk Line young ‘high potential’ employees.
This group is carefully selected by Maersk for their Maersk Liner Graduate Programme in which the high potentials get job rotations and three tailor made course weeks in major maritime locations in the world.
Interactive tailor made course
In Rotterdam the focus is at maritime and port management issues, with a balanced a mix of theory and practice and a site visit to the new container port expansion at Maasvlakte 2, with its brand new state-of-the-art automated container terminals. The participants get high quality interactive tailor made courses, intensive negotiation games, discussion sessions, presentations from industry experts, group assignments and they end the program with a business improvement pitch, to be presented to a high level panel.
Global perspective
Other universities that take part in the program are Singapore Management University and Denver University in the USA. Purpose of the university course weeks is to boost the MLGPs’ careers with skill and knowledge development: development of their leadership skills and enhancement of their knowledge on the business they are in.
Faculty consists of high quality professors and trainers, all lecturing in the EUR post initial Master Maritime Economics and Logistics: academics and industry experts that all combine theory and practice and have a deep knowledge in their specific expert fields within the ports and maritime business. Such a program can be tailor made for different customers.
