English for employees

Would you like to improve your English language skills? The University Language & Training Centre (LTC) has developed a number of courses specifically aimed at employees of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). These English language courses focus on speaking and writing skills. There are separate programmes for academic staff and for non-teaching staff. To ensure that you will learn what is really useful for you in your work. Naturally, EUR employees can also take an individual English course or arrange tailor-made programmes for small groups.

The regular English evening courses have been especially developed for students who would like to enrol for an English Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme, but they are also open to EUR employees. These language courses are organised on the basis of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Take a look at this table to compare CEF levels with other language proficiency tests.

The evening courses consist of 10 weekly classes of 2.5 hours each. The final examination is held after the course ends (see the schedule with exam dates below). In addition to class attendance, course participants are expected to spend approximately 3 hours on course preparation every week.

In addition to the English language courses mentioned above, you can also take a Cambridge Course. After taking this course you can do the CAE or CPE examination organised by Cambridge University which is internationally recognised by many companies and institutions. The Cambridge Course consists of 27 weekly classes of 3 hours each. The course participants are expected to spend approximately 3 hours on course preparation every week. Depending on your level as assessed in the intake test, you can take part in either the CAE or the CPE course.

Intensive English courses are offered by the LTC in August. These summer courses, covering two CEF levels, last for three weeks and are taught during the day.

The group size of our English courses is small: a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 16 course participants.
