English placement test (to participate in our English courses)

Registration is always open
Engels - Language & Training Centre (2017)

The English placement test is online and consists of the Oxford Online Placement test (OOPT). You will be tested on listening skills, grammar and vocabulary. The result of the placement test is an email from LTC telling you which course you can potentially register for. The result is valid for one year. After all, your language proficiency might have improved or deteriorated after one year. Please note you need C1.1 or C1.2 advice for the courses we offer.

What to expect?

The placement test is online and consists of the Oxford Online Placement test (OOPT). You will be tested on listening skills, grammar and vocabulary. The test consists of multiple choice and fill in the blank questions. The test is adaptive with means the way you answer the questions (correct or incorrect) will influence the level of the test until a constant level is reached. It takes about 40 – 60 minutes to complete the test, most participants complete the test in 45 minutes. (depending on your level it could be faster or less fast).

The result of the placement test is an email from LTC telling you which course you potentially can register for. Please note you need C1.1 or C1.2 advice for the courses we offer. The results are linked to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The result of a placement test is merely a course placement advice. It is not the same as an assessment (which consists of more test parts). You will not receive a level statement or certificate. In case you need a certain statement (for example for your master application), you will have to do an English assessment

For whom is the placement test?

Would you like to test your English skills? Or would you like to participate in a language course and you don’t have a proof or an idea of your current level? Then please sign up for this placement test.

Note: You do not need to take a placement test if:

  • You are currently enrolled in an LTC course of a previous level and you wish to register for the following level;
  • You have done a placement test (intake) or language assessment at LTC less than a year ago;
  • You have an official course certificate from the LTC of a previous level (not older than one year) stating the appropriate level.

A placement test is necessary in all other cases.

Please note:

  • You will not receive a level statement or certificate that states your level according to the  Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) because a placement test is not the same as an assessment. An  English assessment is more elaborate and unlike a placement test, you also receive a level statement.
  • As a principle you are not permitted to register for a course at a lower or higher level than your placement test results indicate.
  • We only offer C1.1 and intercultural communication courses for English

What does a placement test cost?

An English placement test costs € 20 and, as a rule, is valid for one year. After all, your language proficiency might have improved or deteriorated after one year.
