What is Aequitas?
Aequitas is a knowledge institute within Erasmus University Rotterdam, focusing on the intersection of economics and philosophy/theology. As the first university institution to offer this combination, Aequitas provides insights that help organizations make valuable and sustainable choices. Within Aequitas, various departments and executive programs collaborate. Their activities focus on education, research, and social impact.
Why Aequitas?
The exclusive pursuit of economic value often clashes with other values: a new approach is needed. Aequitas strives for a values-driven economy with due attention paid to people, the environment, and animals. This requires (people-oriented) leadership, focused on long-term value creation and sustainable impact. Aequitas offers knowledge and tools to find this balance and strengthen organizations.
What does Aequitas stand for?
Aequitas is about equity, balance, and a values-driven economy. This means that financial value is not the sole focus, but that there is room too for personal, social, and ecological values. At Aequitas, research and education go hand in hand. Our field is characterized by three fundamental pillars:
- Values – Values extend beyond economic significance; we focus on human, ecological, and ethical values that sustainably connect organizations with society.
- Measurement – By utilizing methods and techniques, we map impact and coherence. This increases insight and enables informed decisions that benefit organizations, stakeholders, and society.
- Leadership – Leadership is more than management. In addition to strategic and organizational actions, it encompasses a moral and relational dimension. It involves values-driven leadership that not only inspires employees but also contributes to a more just world.
Aequitas offers an academic and practice-oriented approach that helps organizations make valuable, measurable, and future-oriented decisions.
For whom?
Aequitas focuses on leaders, directors, entrepreneurs, policymakers, consultants, and organizations that want to build a future in which profit and social responsibility go hand in hand. Through education and research, we aim to contribute to a balanced economy in which organizations find a balance between profit, people, and society.
