Holland Scholarship Programme
Grant for excellent non-EEA students

Holland Scholarship for excellent non-EEA applicants

Current facets (Pre-Master)

Application deadline: 30 April 2018

The Holland Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education Culture and Science, and by Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. The scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their bachelor or master in Holland.

*EEA stands for European Economic Area. EEA nationals are nationals from EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. While Switzerland and Suriname are not in the EEA, Swiss and Surinamese nationals are considered EEA nationals as far as tuition fees are concerned. All other nationals are considered non-EEA nationals.

Scholarship amount and payment

Holland Scholarship is not a full tuition scholarship! The scholarship amount of € 5,000 will be paid separately in two instalments (November and February) after you have paid the full tuition fee amount. You will receive these amounts only in the first year of your studies.

For whom?

  • You are a non-EEA national (not holding an extra EEA nationality).
  • You have submitted your application for a full-time English taught bachelor or master at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC).
  • You have never before studied at an educational institution in the Netherlands with the purpose of obtaining a degree.
  • You will have to pay the institutional tuition fee because you do not meet the nationality requirement for the lower statutory fee.
  • You are considered an excellent applicant, as apparent from the grade point average of your prior education.
The rule of thumb is that the average grade should be equivalent to the Dutch grade of 8.0 on a grading scale of 1 to 10.
In this respect prior education means:
    • for prospective bachelor students: secondary education abroad
    • for prospective master students: previous bachelor study abroad, or ESHCC pre-master

Scholarship awarding

  • ESHCC will inform all applicants about the outcome of the selection before 15 June 2018.
  • The Dean of ESHCC will decide on the award of the scholarships, based on the advice of the departments’ scholarship committees.
  • A scholarship can only be granted if an applicant starts with the ESHCC programme he or she applied for.
  • In principle a fair distribution of scholarships over the various programmes will take place. This principle may be deviated from and priority may be given to applicants for certain programmes. Additionally, the school may strive for a certain distribution over countries or continents.
