Dr. Amanda Paz Alencar will speak at the international conference ‘Managing complexity: Addressing societal security challenges in the Baltic Sea region’, on 11–12 June 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden. This conference is organised by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), together with the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and will bring together officials and experts from the states that participate in the Council of Baltic Sea States, the Arctic Council and the Barents Euro-Arctic Council.

At the Conference, Amanda will be a speaker in the session 'Strengthening resilience against extremism', which aims to discuss the issue of radicalisation from different perspectives. She will join a discussion on how the "information society" has influenced national integration, social cohesion, extremism/populism, radicalisation, as well as a discussion of how to promote positive tendencies in the distribution and use of information. Amanda will share insights from her work on how ‘new arrivals’ use social and news media and receive their information today.

Panel discussion

The format will be a so-called "fireside chat" with 4 panelists participating in a moderated discussion lasting no longer than 90 minutes in total.
