IBCoM lecturers have built a MOOC (Massive Open Online

At IBCoM we invest in educational innovation. In April 2016, two of our lecturers, Jeroen Jansz and Mijke Slot launched a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the international platform Coursera.org. In less than a year, the MOOC reached more than 20.000 people. The 6 week course is targeted at an international, online audience and is not part of the IBCoM curriculum, but it shows in detail how IBCoM lecturers combine theory and practice in our teaching.

The MOOC is about a particular kind of media: serious games. It includes how playing games can help us to train people, deal with societal challenges or raise awareness of contemporary social issues. It also covers why people like to play these games and how the impact of serious games can be measured. Theory about communication and media is combined with many interesting case studies.
