Iris Segers MSc receives ICA fee waiver for highest ranked

Iris Segers MSc, lecturer in the Department of Media & Communication, has been awarded a conference fee waiver for the International Communication Association (ICA) Conference in Fukuoka, FSD. 

Segers received this prize following her research master thesis, which she wrote in the Research Master in the Sociology of Culture, Media and the Arts. Her thesis was one of the highest ranked student papers in the Feminist Scholarship Division for ICA 2016. The title of the paper is Smashing Patriarchy With Cell Phones? Technofeminist Critique on Mobile Phone-Enabled Women's Empowerment Programmes in Bangladesh. In the paper, co-authored by her supervisor dr. Payal Arora, Iris Segers focuses on two Bangladesh-based women empowerment programmes called Maya Apa and The Grameen Village Phone Programme.

Iris Segers has confirmed her attendance to the conference in Fukuoka and is very much looking forward to the event. "It is a great honor!"
