New publication by Vincent Baptist on entertainment culture and port cities
Within the context of the European research project ‘Pleasurescapes’, PhD candidate Vincent Baptist has published a new article in PORTUSplus that identifies possibilities for researching the history of pleasure and entertainment in port cities.
In the article “Of Hedonism and Heterotopia: Pathways for Researching Legacies of Entertainment Culture in Port Cities”, Vincent Baptist further develops the concept of ‘pleasurescapes’, and makes connections between the past and present of Rotterdam to illustrate the importance of cultural legacies for the future of port cities. Parts of this research have been presented earlier this year, during a History@Erasmus meeting and an international ‘Pleasurescapes’ workshop in Rotterdam.
