The location of the Opening is therefore also special: the Laurens Church in the heart of Rotterdam.

Erasmus University Rotterdam was established 105 years ago. For more than a century the university has been educating ambitious students, carrying out research that pushes the boundaries of human knowledge, and presenting solutions for pressing societal issues. Erasmus University owes its existence to the vision and enterprising spirit of the citizens of Rotterdam.

That is why Erasmus University will be celebrating the 21st lustrum with the city of Rotterdam and its inhabitants. Our festive anniversary programme will centre on the theme ‘Science Meets City: Co-creating knowledge’.

During the coming year, this theme will highlight the spaces where the university and the city of Rotterdam interact and interface. Consequently, it will explore where science can help develop new solutions for urban challenges.
