Josha Wijngaarden

We welcome PhD candidates who aspire a career in History, Arts and Culture, Media and Communication.

PhD candidates are admitted through one of the two following procedures:

Applying for a PhD vacancy

This relates to PhD projects for which you will have to follow an open recruitment procedure. PhD vacancies are announced on the EUR vacancies page and on Academic Transfer. Chinese students who would like to qualify for the CSC scholarship, can find information at EUR China Centre.

Submitting your own research proposal

For all PhD Candidates the minimum legal, educational requirement needs to be satisfied. In order to enter a doctoral programme at ESHCC, national candidates need a Master’s degree. International candidates must prove that their academic degree is equivalent to this Dutch master university examination. Further you have to provide:

  1. A research proposal expanding on the topics you would like to explore;
  2. A CV, including an overview of planned or forthcoming publications if applicable, and a recent paper or publication demonstrating their potential as a researcher;
  3. All non-native English speakers must show proof of their proficiency in English (TOEFL with a minimum of 100 on the internet-based test; IELTS with a minimum score of 7.5).
  4. A budget, providing details about the kind of funding they have obtained or plan to apply for, and a time plan.

If your submission meets ESHCC requirements and your application is reviewed positive, the candidate may continue the application procedure by providing the requested documents. Further details will be provided individually.
