| Sander Buningh is a senior researcher at the Erasmus Centre for Urban, Port and Transport Economics (UPT), specializing in mobility issues that align with users and their living environment. With a background in traffic engineering, policy, and market-driven innovation, he connects academic research with the practical needs of governments, businesses, and knowledge institutions. |
Main Research Areas
CarreerSander has built a career in which he has taken on a variety of roles across different types of organizations, ranging from engineering consultancies to municipal government and the construction sector. He began his career at an engineering firm, focusing on traffic feasibility studies, modeling, and innovation projects. He then moved into the public sector, where as a management team member and project manager, he was responsible for a broad range of traffic and transport topics. He later returned to the consultancy side, this time as a team leader and management team member at an advisory firm, where he managed a department and coordinated international EU projects. In a subsequent phase, his focus shifted toward the market, working as a program manager for business development at a major construction company, with an emphasis on new services, partnerships, and practice-oriented research. He currently works as a senior researcher, where he connects his practical experience with academic research on sustainable mobility and infrastructure innovation. He is well-versed in strategic challenges, while also being experienced in the execution of complex projects. His expertise spans from local policy to international programs, and from technical advisory to executive-level leadership. EducationSander supervises students at both bachelor’s and master’s level. He also delivers (guest) lectures in his field of expertise, urban mobility. |
