Prof.dr. Harrie de Swart
Prof.dr. Harrie de Swart is professor in Logic in the Faculty of Philosophy of the Erasmus University. De Swart studied Mathematics and Physics at Nijmegen University. He obtained his PhD in Nijmegen in 1976, with a dissertation in the Foundations and Philosophy of Mathematics, in particular Intuitionism. The academic year 1976-1977 he spent as Visiting Fellow at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science of Princeton University. From 1980 till 2009 De Swart was full professor in Logic and Language Analysis at Tilburg University.
Areas of expertise of De Swart are Logic, Foundations and Philosophy of Mathematics; Intuitionism; Artificial Intelligence (automated reasoning); Social Choice Theory, Election mechanisms; Fallacies and unfair methods of discussion.
Over the years many courses have been tought by De Swart: logic, set theory, intuitionism, logic at work, databases, prolog, modal/epistemic logic, conditionals, philosophy of mathematics, non-monotonic logic, reasoning about knowledge, logic and computer science, logics for Artificial Intelligence and Social Choice Theory.
