Dr. Paul Schuurman
Dr. Paul Schuurman studied History, Business Administration and Philosophy. He obtained his doctorate in 2000 at Keele University (United Kingdom). Subject of research in his dissertation was a text edition of John Locke's “Of the Conduct of the Understanding”. Between 2000 and 2009 he published about the epistemology, philosophy of science and logic of John Locke and René Descartes. Since 2009 his research focuses on the philosophy and history of war in the early modern period; he writes on the strategic thought of Pieter de la Court (1618-1685); François de Salignac de la Mothe-Fénelon (1651-1715) on war and luxury; Montesquieu’s process explanations for the military rise and fall of the Roman Empire.
