Chief Diversity Officer Prof. Jacco van Sterkenburg has been personally invited to attend the fifth UNESCO Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination as 'Guest of Honour'. The Netherlands will host the conference, which is to take place in The Hague on 29 and 30 October 2026.

Van Sterkenburg received the invitation from Rabin Baldewsingh, National Coordinator against Discrimination and Racism, who is organising the world summit on behalf of our country. King Willem-Alexander and Prime Minister Rob Jetten are also expected to attend the opening ceremony of the world summit.

Working together to find concrete solutions

The theme of the conference is 'From Commitment to Accountability: Change the system, change the future'. Through this theme, the organisation aims to take the next step in the global fight against racism and discrimination. With tensions rising worldwide, the organisation believes it is more important than ever to work together at an international level to find concrete solutions.

Jacco van Sterkenburg: 'Obviously, it is an honor to be invited in this manner, with a personal letter from the National Coordinator against Discrimination and Racism that refers quite extensively to my work on football, media and racism. It also mentions how my role as Chief Diversity officer at EUR matches well with that expertise. It is a personal recognition but also reflects national and international recognition of the work Erasmus University Rotterdam is doing on this topic.'

The Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination is the only international conference that focuses specifically on tackling racism and discrimination worldwide. More than 1,500 participants from over 85 countries are expected to travel to the World Forum in The Hague.
