Carolina Dalla Chiesa and Erwin Dekker publish an article on the Socio-Economic Review about the benefits and constraints of crowdfunding for the arts.

The article is part of Carolina’s doctoral project on assessing the use of crowdfunding for cultural and creative projects. The article draws on economic sociology literature to discuss the constraints of gift-giving strategies and how artists use crowdfunding to move from amateur to professional domains. This paper also highlights the importance of platforms with regard to allowing that monetary contributions by family and friends are seen as investment in the career of artists.
