Join a special screening of short films written and produced by 11 newcomer participants of the 6-week Digital Place-makers program, a filmmaking and storytelling workshop where newcomers explore and share their perspectives on belonging, connecting, being yourself, and overcoming the challenges of being a migrant in Rotterdam and The Netherlands. The Digital-place-makers program is part of the Translocal Lives Research Project, a multi-stakeholder study that investigates how digital technologies can be creatively and effectively used to promote the social inclusion of newcomers in their host society. This project is led by Dr. Amanda Alencar and has Camila Sarria-Sanz MA and Jaber Mawazini MA as part of the research team.

To disseminate the results of this program, two events will take place in the following weeks. First, an expert meeting in which participants will lead a discussion about their short films, highlighting their findings and their experience during the program. Representatives of NGOs, municipalities, social enterprises, and refugee associations will also join the online expert meeting.

Second, the above-mentioned screening night at Kino Rotterdam (movie theater), where we will gather to watch all the short films and share a Q&A with the 11 directors of these artworks. If you are interested in joining, please RSVP by visiting the event page of Translocal Lives

What is next? The project team is currently working on a field guide with the tools used during the process and key lessons learned from the co-participatory approach of this project.
