Dr. Amanda Paz Alencar in New Zealand for a guest seminar on media and migration and the World Communication Association conference

Last week, Dr. Amanda Paz Alencar gave a guest lecture on refugee futures through the digital at the Social Futures Research Hub as part of the department of media and communication of the University of Auckland.

The seminar was organized by dr. Jay Marlowe from the Faculty of Education and Social Work and Luke Goode, from the department of Media and Communication. After the lecture, she also engaged in a discussion with colleagues from different departments about the development of a new research initiative aimed at studies of the social futures from different perspectives. Amanda also presented her work on the digital place-making practices of Venezuelan migrants in Brazil at the conference of the World Communication Association, which took place from July 8-13, in Wellington.

During her stay in New Zealand, Amanda also had the opportunity to interview journalists, digital artists working on refugee issues in New Zealand, and visited the newly reformed resettlement center for refugees in the country.
