Dr. Elisabeth Timmermans invited by BBC Two to discuss her Tinder research

Recently Dr. Elisabeth Timmermans was invited to tune in via Skype on the talk show of Victoria Derbyshire where the use of Tinder was discussed. On the talk show, a psychiatrist was present followed by two women who were active users of the Tinder application. Once the show focused on the subject of Tinder, Dr. Elisabeth Timmermans was invited to discuss her research.

The aim of the research of Timmermans and her colleagues was to find out why Tinder users who already are in a committed relationship are using the Tinder application. Secondly, they wished to find out if their motives to use Tinder differed from users who are single. A remarkable finding was that people who are in a relationship use Tinder more often than singles when it comes to curiosity, or simply using the application because everyone uses the application. Nevertheless, the motives of both types of users tend to be similar; using Tinder as an ego boost, an entertainment tool or as a distraction.
