On December 16, 2016, a replica of the famous Lascaux-cave in the Southern French Dordogne-region was opened to the wider public. It is the most recent example of a 'fake' heritage site, which draws huge crowds of tourists, even though it cannot be considered to be authentic. Hester Dibbits, endowed professor of Historical Culture and Education at the Center for Historical Culture, was interviewed by the Dutch journal AD about the phenomenon.
