The article entitled “Validation Repertories of Media Audiences in the Digital Age: Examining the Legitimate Authority of Cultural Mediators” is published in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly.

The article studies legitimate authority and symbolic power in the media field for the case of cultural mediators. It analyzes how audiences value the judgments of book reviewers and music reviewers using Latent Class Analysis. The results show that, currently, these “validation repertoires” are mainly organized according to the degree of validation, not the degree of institutionalization. Which validation repertoires people have depends on cultural and media-related resources and generalized institutional trust.
