As a university, we are part of society. Within this context, we are a safe, inclusive, innovative and independent organisation. Our staff, students and partners know where to find each other in order to explore different perspectives in an open manner. This enables us to contribute to positive and sustainable solutions for social change based on a deeper understanding of the situation.
Our mission
The mission of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is to foster positive and transformative societal impact through high-quality education and pioneering academic research in media, culture and history.
Our vision
We strive to position ESHCC as a globally recognised centre of excellence that supports the development of resilient, inclusive, and future-oriented societies by advancing scholarly insight and promoting collaboration across disciplines. It is our aspiration to educate and empower a new generation of engaged global citizens, equipped with the analytical tools, openness, and entrepreneurial mindset needed to navigate an increasingly complex world. Our research and educational programmes are shaped by five core impact domains:
- Digital citizenship and human centred AI
- Culture, identity and wellbeing
- Sustainability in the media, arts and creative sectors
- Resilient communities and social transformation
- Diversity and inclusion in a globalising world

Societal Impact Strategy 2025-2030
The Erasmus School of History, Culture & Communication (ESHCC) Societal Impact Strategy 2025-2030 crystallises our long-standing commitment to positively contributing to society through education, research, engagement, and operations. Its purpose is to provide a clear, shared vision and language as we navigate increasingly challenging times. It outlines our impact ambitions and strategic priorities across engagement, research, education, and operations, serving as the foundation for the broader ESHCC Strategy currently in development.
