ERMeCHS offers a tuition-free PhD program. However, certain expenses may be applicable for research-related activities, such as conferences, field trips and summer schools, depending on the nature of the PhD and the research project. Employed PhD candidates are hired by the university and receive a research budget. Scholarship PhD candidates are also eligible for a research budget. However, external (self-funded) PhDs do not receive such a budget, and are expected to cover their own research expenses.
