Media & Business Alumnus

"Several factors contributed to my decision to choose the master Media & Business – and most of them were related to a specific career path. First of all, after spending almost 10 years producing news content as a journalist in Brazil, I realized it wat time to understand better the transformations my profession and many others in the media sector are facing. So, I wanted a master course that could help me go deeper in that by understanding the business of media and, ultimately, the challenges of the business of news. I also believed it would be important to have knowledge on media entrepreneurship and media economics and the master Media & Business has specific courses related to those subjects. Moreover, I couldn’t find many courses related to that anywhere else and it was nice to find this specific master in the Netherlands and at EUR because my wife wanted to study in Rotterdam because it’s a recognised hub for port business and education. So, the decision was a mix of several factors, most related to my career path, but some also related to personal life.

A piece of advice: ask questions, be interested and committed, focus on some specific fields inside a sector (try to specialize as much as you can on a subject), extract the most you can of knowledge and reading suggestions from your teachers. When we are super-young and just left our bachelors, a master may look like just another formality before adult life, but it’s a very important one and I feel some of us didn’t make the most of it – and it’s a shame because there’s plenty of people out there willing for the same chance we had."
