Generative AI: Academic Questions

Introduction

Much has changed since two years ago generative AI first publicly broke through. Now that we are over the first practical shock, it is time to start thinking about more fundamental issues that generative AI poses for academia. In this module these fundamental challenges will be explored. Not by providing answers, but by identifying the fundamental questions that academia should ask.

Six chapters will form the steps to an ever more fundamental level of questions. The product of this exploration is very much a work in progress: still clouded by dust that has not yet settled. Therefore, all questions and claims that are made in this module are open to corrections, criticism and discussion.

Context and target group

As part of their offer for the professional development of teachers, the Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) is developing online learning modules for EUR teachers. These modules are developed in collaboration with EUR lecturers, didactics and experts on the topics. You can complete the online learning modules at your own pace at your own time. The modules were made possible in part by an EU grant through Npuls.

Content, form and time investment

This module consists of six chapters. For each chapter there is one video, a transcript of the video, a page with relevant additional material, and an assignment. Rather than administrative hoops to jump through, these assignments are intended as open invitations to participants to share their own experience and insights in a forum environment. We have tried to keep the threshold low, so people can participate easily, and contribute to a shared source of wisdom for all.
