During this edition, Prof.dr. Peter Verkoeijen (ESSB) will tell more about flexibility in higher education, and its impact on student motivation.

During the CLI Lunch & Learn session, Peter Verkoeijen (ESSB) will discuss flexibility in higher education. First, he will engage with participants about what flexibility actually is and how flexibility in higher education has increased. Additionally, he will address a frequently heard assumption: flexibility enhances student motivation in higher education. Whether this is actually true, under what circumstances it would apply, and for which students, are the questions that will be addressed in this session.

Prof.dr. Peter Verkoeijen

Prof.dr. Peter Verkoeijen (ESSB) is endowed professor of educational psychology at on the chair "Practice-oriented educational research into applications of cognitive psychology in higher education" a the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is also affiliated as a lector with the Brain and Learning research group. He is also affiliated as a lecturer with the Brain and Learning research group. This research group is part of the Future-proof Education expertise center at Avans University of Applied Sciences. Peter studied cognitive psychology - with a specialization in educational psychology - at Maastricht University. His expertise lies in the area of self-regulated learning, specifically in effective cognitive learning strategies. Additionally, student motivation in higher education is an important theme in his work. Together with colleagues, he developed the motivation engine, a reflection tool for teachers in higher education that can be used to support students' autonomous motivation.
