At November the 11th, 2022, the International Martin Luther Conference on 'Free trade and free will? Erasmus, Luther and current economic challenges' will take place in Rotterdam. The international conference is organised by the Internationale Martin Luther Stiftung and the Erasmus Economics & Theology Institute. You are welcome to participate in the conference. Government intervention in the free market is once again in the spotlight. For example, the European Union is currently looking whether to intervene in the energy market in order to deal with the energy crisis. Is the market really free?
Against the background of these and other current economic issues, the 15th Luther Conference will reflect on the theme 'Free trade and free will? Erasmus, Luther and current economic challenges.' We want to reflect on the (un)freedom of the market, as seen around us, from Luther's and Erasmus' perspective on freedom.
The conference will start on Friday November the 11th at 15:00. In the afternoon, the speakers reflect on economic (un)freedom through an introductory lecture and an in-depth podium discussion. The German Bundestag member Otto Fricke, entrepreneur Gert-Jan Huisman, professor Lans Bovenberg and SGP parliamentarian Kees van der Staaij will participate in this podium, among others. The afternoon programme ends at 17:00 with an extensive Italian buffet.
In the evening, from 18:00 onwards, the LutherRose will be presented to European Commissioner Margrethe Vestager. The LutherRose is a recognition for her entrepreneurial courage and shown social responsibility. In her role as European Commissioner, she has not shunned confrontation with big tech. In addition, there will be several inspiring speeches on the theme, including by Prof.dr. Jan Peter Balkenende and Allard Castelein, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam. The evening program will end at 20:15 with drinks.
