The Erasmus University will get a theological institute, the Erasmus Economics & Theology Institute (EETI). Prof. dr. Paul van Geest will be the scientific director of the institute. The institute has been established at the 1st of November 2019. It is part of the Eramus Institute for Business Economics (EIBE), and will operate at the intersection of theology and economics. In this way, the institute treads in the footsteps of Desiderius Erasmus, the illustrious theologian, priest and humanist, namesake of the Erasmus University.

The institute will be involved into enhancing the understanding of the leadership questions that face business economists. Modern leadership increasingly revolves around ethics, understanding motives and weighing of the own and others' interests. The institute will contribute to the dissemination of insights and training in leadership.

Involved with the institute are the professors Paul van Geest (Catholic theologian), occupying the chair of Theology and Economic Thought, and Lans Bovenberg (Evangelical economist), occupying the chair of Relational economics, values and leadership.

Read the interview with both professors in the Erasmus Magazine, the column of academic director dr. Joost Hengstmengel and the reporting by KRO and Trouw.
